Department of Basic Experiment Education

Department of Basic Experiment Education, founded in June, 2002, consists of offices, teaching experiment center of basic chemistry, the laboratory of electric engineering and electronics, fundamental complex laboratory, audio-visual teaching center, and engineering training center. Among them the teaching experiment center of basic chemistry is entitled the provincial model center for the laboratory of basic courses after the strict inspection in March 2007. Now the department has 95 teachers and technicians, 13 of whom are full professors or associate professors. The department has 4,985 pieces of laboratory equipment which are worth more than 26.6136 million RMB. Fifteen thousand four hundred fifty six square meters of floor space are available for laboratory.  

The Department strives for combining the experimental teaching resources, enhancing students’ capacity, creating a comfortable and harmonious atmosphere of working and teaching, activating the thought and wisdom of teachers and students, and intensifying the cultivation of students’ individuation to boost the full-scale establishment and reform of laboratory with the goal of people-oriented, student-centered and serving for education and teaching.

The Department now takes on the teaching tasks of nine courses on its own, and offers 8 elective courses, such as practical electrical training, computer maintenance & application techniques, interesting electrical facture, multimedia technology and digital audio-visual creation, applied chemical experiments, household appliance servicing and maintenance, mechanical structure training, and structural innovation and practice. The department takes on nearly 100 assistant teaching tasks in experiments. There are about one million students who have taken part in the experiments organized by Department of Basic Experiment Education and the total time is also about one million hours. In addition, the department takes on the management and maintenance of the geology exhibition hall, multi-media language learning classrooms, multi-function classroom, and foreign language learning classroom, (FM) radio station and room for grinding rock pieces of SWPU.

Department of Basic Experiment Education organizes the staff to take an active part in the teaching reforms and to establish engineering training center. In recent years, the department has carried out 112 teaching reforms on its own, undertook two provincial teaching reforms and one teaching reform in SWPU and applied for nine experimental teaching fruits.

Department of Basic Experiment Education positively pushes forward the opening of experiment courses in order to strengthen the innovative and practical ability of students. Approximately, 3,000 students have taken part in 355 experiments opening outside class and over 200 projects of integrative and innovative experiments training. Two essays have been published in open publication. One essay has been published in the magazine of “CHINA INFORMATION TIMES”. Two articles are to be published. Four projects have gained the applied and new-style patent in China. Another two projects have been accepted and got the notice from State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R. China. Now 103 experimental projects opening outside classes are in process.
