School of Continuing Education
Southwest Petroleum University started its adult education in the 1970s. And in 1996 the Adult Education College was established, which is renamed as the School of Continuing Education in 2006. After 30 years of development, the school now offers higher education programs at various levels in various forms, covering about 70 specialties as Petroleum Engineering, Oil and Gas Storage and Transportation, Electronic Information Science and Technology and Law, with an enrollment of 6000 students plus 1200 trainees in on-job training programs.
The School of Continuing Education has established an extensive cooperation with enterprises around the nation. By focusing on the need of society, petroleum industry and market, we’ve developed our characteristics in adult higher education. Up to now, the college has set up 6 provincial correspondence stations in Chongqing, Gansu, Hebei, Xinjiang, Hainan and Ningxia, and local teaching centers in Mianyang, Zhongjiang, Nanchong and Luzhou. In 1999, the college was awarded the title of “Advanced School of Continuing Education” by China National Petroleum Corporation. In 2002, the academy was designated the official examination site of English Listening & Speaking Examination of self-taught higher education and National Computer Rank Examination (NCRE) by the Ministry of Education and Sichuan Self-taught Examination Committee. In 2004, the school won the title of “Advanced NCRE Site”, and “Advanced Unit of Electronic Registration of Higher Education Qualification Certificates” in March, 2005. In 2006, the school was listed one of the best student recruitment units in continuing education in Sichuan.
Working together with China University of Petroleum, we set up Southwest Petroleum University on-line Learning Center, offering online education courses to junior college students and undergraduates and to junior college graduates who try to obtain the undergraduate diploma through self-taught study. In autumn, 2006, the center made its first recruitment in the fields of Safety Engineering, Business Management, Accounting, Mechanical Design and Automation.
Based on the university’s excellent teaching staff and facilities, the School of Continuing Education cooperates with enterprises in petroleum industry, units of law and justice in Sichuan. Training programs in academic fields such as Petroleum Engineering, Law and Foreign Languages are available. Thus it makes a great contribution to the promotion and application of new theories, new technologies and techniques, and new achievements in scientific research. The training project of Protection Technology for Oil-Gas Layer won the first-class national and ministerial prize. In 2002, the school was designated the Base of Continuing Education for Professionals in Sichuan. In 2004, “Sichuan Training Center of Justice” was founded.
Under the leadership of the University, the school will strive for further development of continuing education cause. We are looking forward to a more extensive cooperation all over the world.
