School of Resources and Environment Engineering
The School of Resources and Environment Engineering of Southwest Petroleum University was established in 1958 which was originally named the Department of Petroleum Exploration.
The school is composed of 91 members on its staff, of whom 23 are professors and 28 are associate professors. Twelve professors are qualified as the supervisors for doctoral degree students. In addition, there are a number of lecturers and assistants working with the school.
The school seeks to promote the overall quality of the academic environment by creating a highly qualified and talented staff. Numerous recognitions and awards have been obtained both at the national and provincial level, including: the Special Allowance by the State Council, the title of Outstanding Experts by Sichuan Province, the title of Excellent Teacher by China National Petroleum Corporation, the title of Outstanding Young & Middle-aged Expert by Sichuan Province, the Sun Yueqi Sciences & Teaching Fund, Iron Man Scientific Achievement （bronze medal）, Over twenty faculty members have been sent abroad to be engaged in advanced studies, academic visits and joint research projects.
The objectives of the school encompass research in the undergraduate and graduate level of instruction in the following areas: Geology, Geological Resources & Engineering, as well as Geography. The school offers four bachelor’s programs, nine master’s programs and three doctoral programs. There are one key discipline at national level, two key disciplines at provincial level, two professional Specialties of Sichuan Province, three best courses of Sichuan Province, one professional training program and a post doctoral center. The school has six teaching and research sections, a research institute and a testing center.
Functioning as the training base of Sichuan Province, all the programs in the School of Resource & Environment are open for undergraduate and graduate students at SWPU. Students come from 25 different provinces in China. Over the past 50 years, thousands of students and professionals have been trained and are now working in the oilfields, most notably in the major oilfields of western China. In this school there are 1,685 bachelor’s degree students, 303 master’s degree students, and 66 doctoral degree students.
